Football Update: Well, the season has ended for our footballers. It doesn’t seem like all that long ago the boys were training on the back oval in the summer heat…and before we know it we’ll be into November and preparing for 2018. The search for a new Senior Coach is currently underway, applications close on Friday September 15th and a position description can be found on our website.
Last weekend, the Unders had another narrow loss, this time by 5 points. The boys played in five games decided by a goal or less throughout 2017 for two wins and three losses…certainly some thrilling finishes but they weren’t able to get over the line to end the season. The Reserves finished off the year with a win over the bottom placed North City, while the Seniors fell 23 points short in their final game for 2017. The Senior debut by two of our talented 16 year olds in Luke Heaney and Josh Jenkins was a highlight, and Braedan Kight kicked 3 goals to finish with 41 goals for the year – an excellent return from Braedan. Hopefully he will be recognised with a much deserved spot in the Team of the Year!
Thanks to our 2017 Coaches – Brad Murphy (Seniors), Matthew Gunn (Reserves) and David Galakos (U18.5s) – and to our Assistant Coaches, Team Managers, Trainers, Runners, Waterboys, Timekeepers and any general helpers we’ve had throughout the year. It takes a lot of people to get our teams on the ground every week, we could always use more help, so if you think you can volunteer some of your time in 2018 please don’t be afraid to put your hand up!
Netball Update: The sole Bloods team in the finals for this year are our 19 & Under Netballers who take on North City for the second weekend in a row. The girls will be keen to overturn last week’s result when the North City team got over the line. Today’s game counts for a lot more than last week’s game did and hopefully our girls can keep the Bloods season going into Week two of the finals series! Well done to first year coach Telia Coverdale on what she and her girls have achieved so far – and best of luck today!
For A, B, C and D Grade the season is over. It was a tough year for our A Grade Netballers, but we had some joy with our only win for the year being over local rival Melton South a fortnight ago. Heartbreak for our D Grade team last week who got the win over City, but with Redan beating the Marsh by 1 goal it was enough to keep us out of a finals spot.
As with the football, it takes a lot of help to get our teams on the court every week. Thank you to our coaches and everyone else who has helped throughout the season. Our 2017 Netball Co-Ordinator Jess Bartlett is finishing up at the end of the season after two years in the role and we are pleased that Telia Coverdale has put her hand up to take over in 2018. Thanks Jess for all your hard work and enthusiasm over the past couple of years.
1914 Premiership Medal: Thanks to some observant work by Brendan Sheen, the Club has been able to secure a 1914 Premiership Medallion that was being sold on Ebay. Our club has a very proud history dating back nearly 140 years and this will be another item that we can put on display in our clubrooms.
Sponsors: Without the generous contribution of our sponsors we wouldn’t be able to get our teams onto the ground or court week in, week out. A big thank you to everyone who supported the Bloods this year. And a special mention to Derrimut 24:7 Gym who took over as our major sponsor. We’d love to welcome more sponsors on board for 2018 – if you can help, no matter how big or small, we would be keen to talk with you. Contact our President Greg Davis – his details can be found on our website.
Father’s Day Raffle: Our Father’s Day Wheelbarrow raffle winner was Steve and Ann Undy. Natalie Jane won our 2nd Prize. Thanks to our netball girls who organised the raffle, everyone who sold or purchased tickets, and to the following local businesses - Boost Juice, Hogs Breath Melton, Autobarn, Bunnings and Schnitz - for their donations. We appreciate your support.

This weekend sees the first of four busy weekends for our volunteers running the booths. If you feel like a cold drink while watching the footy then we can certainly help!
